A Whimsical Walk Through the Fairy Trail at Faust Park

Last weekend, my husband and I packed up the kids and headed to Faust Park in Chesterfield for a little magic—hidden among the trees in the Whimsical Woods. It was one of those easy, joy-filled mornings that reminded me why we do this Hello Curio & Co. thing in the first place: to chase wonder.

James, Juniper, and I loved searching for all the little treasures tucked away in the woods. Everywhere we looked, something new was waiting to be discovered. Some of our favorite finds included tiny fairy furniture and the most charming little houses hidden in secluded tree logs. The forest even smelled sweet—James declared it had to be because fairies really live there “for real life.”

The trail was just the right length for our family. We spent about 30 minutes exploring before heading to the nearby playground to burn off a little extra energy. We brought our jogger stroller, and it handled the mulch path fine—but if you’re using a stroller with smaller wheels or a wheelchair, it might be a bit tricky. At the time of this post, there was an accessible porta-potty available near the trail.

Want a little background before you go? Faust Park is home to the historic Thornhill Estate and is packed with nature and history. The fairy trail is a community-created, volunteer-maintained experience that continues to grow with new additions. Here’s a great article with more history and photos.

Field Trip Tips:

  • Bring a camera or nature journal to document your child’s favorite finds.

  • If it recently rained, shoes with grip are helpful (mulch can get slippery).

  • Consider pairing the visit with a book about fairies or a fairy house art activity afterward!
